Future Street served as a major showcase for the NSW government, the City of Sydney, AILA, the Smart Cities Council and Place Design Group on what our cities and streetscapes will look like in the coming decades.

With thousands of Sydneysiders visiting the space Future Street advances knowledge for the industry and all Australians on where the future is taking us. From 12-15 October 2017, Sydney’s Alfred Street near Circular Quay was transformed into a street of the future as part of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture (AILA)’s 2017 International Festival.

Funded by the Australian government and in partnership with AILA, Smart Cities Council and the Internet of Things Alliance Australia , Place Design Group researched, conceptualised and led the design and build to deliver a real-life experience of a street from the future.

This 50 metre long street included 30 mature street trees, 100 tonnes of soil and numerous technologies from Tesla cars, autonomous shuttles to smart poles and vertical farming. The built ‘Future Street’ showcased innovative ideas around how landscape, infrastructure and technology will advance our cities, suburbs and towns to become more liveable, productive and sustainable.
